December meeting

At November's meeting, Jackie has decided that, after 11 years, she is standing down as President.
We are hoping that someone will step forward at the Xmas meeting, in order to keep the Dodford WI going.

The Christmas Party will be on 8th December.
The boys haven't been invited this year, so it's just all us girlies!
Hot food and entertainment provided.
Please come along girls and show appreciation for all the Committee members who have worked hard this year.

Don't forget to bring Santa's Socks with presents inside.
Bingo will be available on the night.

Bring the usual cutlery, glasses, etc, to save on washing up - especially as the dishwasher is out of order in the hall at the moment!

November meeting

Our November meeting went off well.
Annette and John Christophers demonstrated Fun with Clay, in which all the members participated by making their own personalised piece of clay.  Annette then surprised everyone by putting all their pieces together to make one large bowl!  This is currently being fired, hopefully to be returned in time for our Christmas party!

October Meeting

Well, it's our 60th Birthday on 14th October!

Other WI's have been invited, so we hope all our ladies will turn out for this celebration.

The evening will be full of entertainment, refreshments, and hopefully making lots of new friends!

See you there!

update - the evening was a huge success with a feast for everyone!

September Meeting

After a last minute cancellation, the September meeting went ahead as a social/games evening.  Despite the lack of a speaker, everyone seemed to have great fun, especially doing those devilish dingbats and word puzzles!

And of course, tucked in to those lovely refreshments provided by the ladies.  Thank you to all who turned up and made the most of the evening!

Dodford Show

Congratulations to all on a great Show this year!
All went well, loads of entries, well attended by villagers, who took part in the auction afterwards, we will be letting you know soon how much was raised.
Enjoyed by everyone, thanks must go to the Committee of both WI and Gardening Club for putting on such a great day.
And, of course, many thanks also to all those who baked, grew, sewed, picked, etc, and entered so many great entries; all those who helped with refreshments and setting up / putting away on the day; Richard for auctioning the goods at the end of the day; and all those who came along to see what it was all about!

July update

July's meeting was on Friday 8th, where Janine Rusby gave a demonstration of Yoga.

We had a good turnout of 17 members, all of whom took part, and enjoyed it immensely.

Well done ladies!

Have a wonderful summer break, and look forward to seeing you at the Dodford Show with all your amazing entries once again!

June Update

On Friday 12 June we enjoyed our Fish & Chip supper at Jean's.  Luckily, we had placed chairs undercover as rain was predicted, and which started as the food arrived.  But we managed a cheery toast to Queen Elizabeth on her 90th Birthday.

On 8 July Janine Rusby will be encouraging us to relax and improve  our posture with Yoga.  Not compulsory to participate, but could be fun.  Wear comfy clothing.  Jean  and Pat  have kindly offered to provide refreshments.

There is no WI meeting in August, but on Friday 9 September Ruth Lowe will enjoy telling us about Mary Quant - her career and design concept through the 1960's.  Refreshments provided by Sue, Flossie and Madge.

Reminder that The Dodford Show will take place on Saturday 3 September 2016 in Dodford Village Hall.  Schedules now available from Penny.

May update

On Friday 13 May we held our Annual Meeting and voted on this year's two Resolutions: A) Appropriate Care in Hospitals for People with Dementia, and B) Avoid Food Waste, Address Food Poverty.   Jules Evans, our WI Advisor, for the evening, ably guided us through the proceedings.  Interesting debates followed, with the resultant voting:    A) For: 2, Against: 8, Abstain: 4 and   B) For: 12 Against: 2.  As last year, it was felt by the majority that the wording was ambiguous, therefore agreed to the Discretionary vote in case the wording was amended at a later date.

The secret ballot then took place on the future President, with votes for Jackie and Christine.  Christine reluctantly said No, so guess who is still President.         Delicious refreshments were provided by Raili Caldicott and Norma Willis.

Friday 12 June we are invited to a mini Fish & Chip supper in Jean Sleigh’s garden, 6.30 for 7pm, Cost approx £5.  Contact Jackie if you want directions.  Bring your own drink and folding chair, and perhaps this year if we ask for rain we’ll get sunshine !!!!

The Dodford Show will be held at Dodford Village Hall on Saturday 3 September 2016.  Schedules will not be included with the Parish magazine, but will be available from Penny or Jackie Parker (01527 880640) and hopefully on our new website soon.

April meeting 2016

On Friday 8th April, we armed ourselves with rubber gloves and aprons, and Mary Day skilfully encouraged each of us to produce a beautifully printed silk scarf.  An evening with a difference.

Our next meeting is Friday 13th May, when we will be holding our AGM and vote on this year's two Resolutions.

They are:
1) Appropriate Care in Hospitals for People with Dementia, and
2) Avoid Food Waste, Address Food Poverty.
Information is provided on pages 21 and 22 in the April issue of WI Life.

Please read and bring your view along to our meeting.
